About us

Badgeworth Village Hall was built in 1840 and established as the Village School under the governance of the Gloucester Diocesan Council of Education. We understand it ceased to operate as a school in the early 1900s. The building was eventually purchased and given to the community in 1957 and run as the “Badgeworth Club”, a social group that was active until the early 1970s. Ownership of the Hall then transferred to Badgeworth Parish Council who eventually set up a Management Committee to run the Hall on their behalf. The Hall remained in a fairly poor state of repair and utilisation until 2003 when the community was galvanised into action to bring it into the 21st century.

Initially with a programme of community fund raising, and then with the hard work of local volunteers, we took the first steps in improving the interior decoration and facilities. Subsequently, the Parish Council was successful in winning a Section 106 bid which provided funding to reorder the interior and to add a new enlarged entrance lobby and the large car park opposite the Hall.

This programme of improvement resulted in the present facility which both the local community and others from the surrounding area are now able to enjoy. The building had been designated as a grade 2 listed building and represents a fine example of a Victorian school building, in conjunction with the Old School House to which the Hall is attached.

Today Badgeworth Village Hall is run by a group of volunteers who manage all the day to day activities necessary to provide an excellent facility and service to all our users.
